Are Implants and Dentures Able to Work Together?
Posted on 7/7/2020 by Olympia Prosthodontics & Cosmetic Dentistry
There have been a lot of advances in dental prosthetics. Wooden dentures have evolved into lifelike ones plus there are options like implants, crowns, and bonding. The good news is, these options can be used together. Dentures are replacements for missing teeth which can be full or partial. Partial sets of dentures can easily be used in conjunction with dental implants. At the same time, implants can be used to secure dentures.
In addition to securing dentures, implants can help with chewing capability and natural bite patterns. This process is formally called denture stabilization and helps to eliminate the concern of poor (loose) fitting and discomfort. If you do not have the resources for a mouthful of implants or if this option is not physically possible, implants can seamlessly be combined with dentures.
Fixed and removable dental prosthetics can be combined into a mix of functional aesthetics to treat oral problems while looking very natural. This effective combination is most useful when much of the jawbone has been lost and cannot be repaired with just implants. In these cases, two to four implants support removable dentures, which increases stability while upholding existing bone. Another procedure involving implants and dentures is essentially a hybrid method.
The blending of dentures and implants is as much an art as it is a science. These procedures do require expertise for the best possible results. Fortunately, this is something that we have taken the time to master and are confident that you will enjoy the final results. We have performed countless overdenture procedures so do not hesitate to ask any questions that you may have, especially if you are considering having an implant procedure performed. Losing teeth is difficult, but we are here to make replacing them easier.
